Astra Zeneca breaks vaccine tests: test participants are sick

A test person has suffered from a “potentially unexplained illness,” Reuters reports.

Now the vaccine tests are stopped and the company investigates if the disease was caused by the vaccine.

“A routine evaluation led to the interruption of vaccine tests to review safety,” an Astra Zeneca spokeswoman said in a statement, Reuters reports.

“Accelerate the assessment”

The company has not given a more detailed description of what type of illness the test participant has suffered, but the person is expected to recover.

“We are working to expedite the assessment of the individual incident to minimize any impact on the testing program,” Astra Zeneca wrote in the statement.

Sweden has concluded an agreement on the vaccine.

The person affected by the disease participates in the tests carried out in the United Kingdom, together with researchers from the University of Oxford. The vaccine in question is the vaccine that Sweden has previously agreed upon.

The company’s vaccine trials are also conducted in the United States, Brazil and South Africa. In the future, studies are also planned in Russia and Japan. Testing is now on hold in all countries.

In all, about 50,000 people are expected to be tested in the study. It’s unclear when testing can resume.
