Linda Magnusson carefully picks up the broken glass from the street. Two weeks have passed since her colleague was shot a few hundred meters from her office.
In the street there are flowers and candles.
The victim, 29-year-old Cengiz from Tensta, had just arrived at work when he was killed. Police believe the perpetrators sat in a gray Mazda and waited more than two hours.
– We have received a film of a car that passed 09.52. Here you can see that Mazdan is standing and “waiting” outside Södra Kungsvägen, says Carina Skagerlind at the Stockholm Police Media Center.
Linda Magnusson is owner and COO of “Ung invest”, which runs a supported home in Lidingö for young people who, among other things, need help to get out of crime or destructive environments. She says Cengiz called her just 30 minutes before the murder. She then headed into the office, on what should really have been her day off, and talked about a meeting with social services they would have later that day.
That was the last time they were heard.
The front door was open to vent the summer heat when Linda Magnusson suddenly heard loud knocks. The first thought was that it was the construction workers who were on the move and they went out into the yard to watch.
– It sounded like someone was playing with metal, but there was no one in the yard. Then a colleague calls and says they shoot a black Audi outside and drop it there. I run out and see Cengiz’s car. The lights are on and the rear window is broken. He sits completely still in the front seat, motionless. I understood that it was very bad, but at the same time everything was so unreal because in my wildest imagination I cannot understand why someone would want it so much.
Someone yells that they He has called the police and the ambulance. Then Linda runs in, he says. Close the door, according to the routine for dangerous situations.
The life of the 29-year-old cannot be saved, he is found dead at the scene.
– They fired with automatic weapons and pistols. Many shots were fired. Among other things, the bullets entered a property 150 meters away. So it is pure luck that no one else was injured. The seriousness becomes very clear, says Carina Skagerlind of the Stockholm Police.
Linda Magnusson met Cengiz in 2018 when she was looking for a job at “Ung invest.” He had recently served a longer prison sentence after a high-profile robbery against a pawnshop in Västerås in 2015, where he and several others are said to have found gold and jewelry worth approximately SEK 7 million, according to the district court ruling. According to police, she had prior connections to gang crime. One of the other people convicted of the same robbery was linked to a criminal gang in Stockholm and was killed last year in Copenhagen.
Cengiz has vine tiden for robbery of a pawn bank convicted of 14 other crimes, including aggravated robbery, and had, according to a Frivården investigation, a history of extensive drug abuse.
He didn’t dwell on his past, which he said he deeply regretted. I had a very good impression the first time we met, but he was too close to his verdict. We demand that at least three years have passed without a point on the crime or suspicion register, which I explained to you. I remember her saying “my past will haunt me and ruin my future,” but I advised her not to give up, says Linda Magnusson.
In 2019 he called again: “Do you remember me?” They met for a second interview.
– Cengiz later worked as a caregiver for children and young people in a municipality. We then took an extract from the suspicion and charge register and there was no new information since 2015.
This time get have Probationary employment as a housing developer.
– It was a real joy spreader. Incredibly humble. His attitude above all was “we solve it” and he linked up with everyone. He was thirsty for knowledge and developed enormously, assuming more and more responsibilities. My personal impression was that he was so incredibly grateful to have a second chance, I don’t know how many times he thanked me, says Linda Magnusson and shows a text message the 29-year-old sent a minute after midnight on New Years Eve. .
“Happy new year, the boss hopes 2020 is your year. Anyway you saved my 2019 “
Linda Magnusson says who later started using another name, “Adam”, because he hoped it would be easier for him in work life to have a Swedish name.
– We talk a lot about it, I lived in exclusion, growing up in Tensta, having a different name. He felt that they had never seen him for what he was, but only because of prejudice.
After the murder, the company office moved to a new location. The young people who receive help through “Ung Invest” do not live near the office and none of them were at the scene at the time of the murder, but since the incident risks negatively affecting them, the operations manager has submitted a report from Lex Sarah to the Swedish Medical and Health Inspectorate. watch out.
– We are a small company in pain and shock. Our focus since this terrible act has been to support all staff and make sure we provide the best possible support to the young people who are with us and to assist the police in their preliminary investigation, says Linda Magnusson.
Mother of one An 18-year-old who had 29 as a contact person through “Ung Invest” tells DN that the murder shocked her.
– My son thinks it is terribly difficult, he really liked it and felt that Cengiz really wanted to help him. It’s incredibly sad.
Cengiz was also the contact person for an 18-year-old girl.
– After her death, she called me and she just cried and cried. My grandson was a person who did not trust any man, but then she caught him and he completely turned on her. I had so much confidence in him. He did everything for her and I also had very good contact with him, if she was worried she could call at any time of the day, says the grandmother.
The 29-year-old protected information, but the police do not want to comment if there was a threat against him. Not even if there is a known motive for the murder.
“We always have suspects but we don’t have any reasonable suspects that I know of,” says Carina Skagerlind.
Police are now asking people who may have seen a gray Mazda in Södra Kungsvägen on August 24 to get in touch.
Early in the morning the car climbed even higher. We are looking for witnesses who have made observations of the car or people, before the incident, says Carina Skagerlind.
Mazdan was found two hours later abandoned in a parking lot in Odenvägen by Lidingö Centrum. After that, the tracks of the alleged killers disappear.
– We are interested in all observations, have you seen something that deviates from the everyday, for example people you do not recognize from the area, says Carina Skagerlind.
Linda Magnusson has the family’s approval to talk about Cengiz.
– People are very quick to draw conclusions and have preconceived notions. She was a person with a past, but when she got a second chance, she dedicated her life to giving back to young people. We work with people who make mistakes. If we don’t believe in a second chance, our work doesn’t make any sense. So it’s just empty words.
Cengiz’s family has approved DN publishing his first name.
