Sweden believes that Portugal as a team can be better without Cristiano Ronaldo.
The captain of the Federation, Fernando Santos, does not agree.
-I don’t think any team can be better without the best in the world, he says.
Cristiano Ronaldo had a swollen foot and was not present when Portugal defeated Croatia 4-1 in Saturday’s Nations League game.
But now the Juventus star seems to come into play in Tuesday’s game against Sweden at the Friends Arena, something that Swedish players believe may be a good thing.
– Apparently they were very good against Croatia without Cristiano Ronaldo. Hopefully they’ll get a bit worse as a team (if he’s with him). Perhaps it is the case that if he joins, the team will be worse and there will be a little more individual play. We may do well, Gustav Svensson said on Sunday.
At Monday’s press conference, Fotbollskanalen asked the captain of the national team, Fernando Santos, if he agrees that Portugal as a team can improve without Ronaldo and why he thinks the Swedish players say so.
– Swedish players must answer that. But I don’t think any team can be better without the best in the world. But if he is not with us, we still have a good team but with the will and ability to win every game, Santos replied.
So the question is. Will Ronaldo play Sweden? The Portuguese media claim that it will. And according to Fernando Santos, Monday’s training will decide.
– If he can train, of course he will play. These are the best players in the world that we are talking about.
