On Monday night, the Social Democrats gathered in Borlänge for the annual meeting and the election of a new president.
And when the vote was completed, it was clear: it will be Erik Nises, Stefan Löfven’s former press secretary, who will take over.
He received 79 votes against the opposition candidate, also Defense Minister Peter Hultqvist, who received 65 votes.
Hultqvist was nominated by the Nominating Committee. However, other party members have questioned whether the minister would have time to get involved in local politics, DT writes.

Cilla Rohdin, who was nominated but declined, was one of those behind Nises.
– We need a leader present, he told Dt before the vote.
When the news was later announced, Peter Hultqvist made a speech and congratulated the new president.
– Unity and joint work is extremely important. Good friendship must be nurtured. Renovation is necessary. Experience must balance renewal, said the defense minister, according to Dt.
Erik Nises replaces Kenneth Persson, who has served as president for 21 years.
