Five of the eight men now convicted of participating in the murder of Jamal Khashoggi receive 20 years in prison. The other three are sentenced to between 10 and 17 years in prison, Al Jazeera reports.

The Saudi journalist was killed during a visit to the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in October 2018. The investigation of the incident has shown that the journalist was strangled and injured.

A previous UN report also indicated that the assassination was ordered by the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman. However, he has denied any involvement in the act.

Several convicted of the murder

The verdict against the eight men comes after Jamal Khashoggi’s sons pardoned them, in accordance with Saudi law. The act means that the men cannot be sentenced to death, but instead receive a prison sentence.

According to AFP, today’s verdict means the end of the investigation of the case noted worldwide.
