Prime Minister: “The Russian state has answers to give”
Nordstream 2 has been described as “the energy future of Europe”, it will transport Russian gas to Germany and is considered important for both countries.
Despite this, German Chancellor Heiko Maas did not rule out this weekend that the gas pipeline project could be paralyzed. And now Angela Merkel is doing the same, according to the AFP news agency.
Merkel’s threat comes after Alexei Navalny was found poisoned with the novitjok chemical weapon. Later, the experts claimed that only Russia has access to the product.
But the Kremlin has repeatedly denied its involvement. More recently, on Monday, Moscow’s accusation was called “absurd.”
According to the German newspaper Focus, the Russian attitude is that the project should be finished. Moscow has also emphasized that the gas pipeline project is exclusively an economic project, not a political one.
Angela Merkel’s lawsuit
Alexei Navalny was poisoned in late August just before boarding a plane in Russia. He was initially treated in Russia, which after sampling claimed that he was not poisoned.
After he was taken to Germany for treatment, German samples found that he had been poisoned with the neurotoxin novitjok.
And it’s after the test results were made public that voices were raised in Germany to stop Nordstream 2.
According to the German media, Angela Merkel demands that Russia cooperate fully in order for the project to continue.
Stefan Löfven condemned the assassination attempt on Alexei Navalny during a press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel last week.
