The massive ongoing COVID-19 infection tests are the largest to date in Sweden. The first round of testing started last week and the test results have been presented successively during the week. In the first round, just over 8,000 test results were submitted, of which two were positive.
“From an infection control perspective, it is good to be able to carry the infection, and it is very interesting to have another week of sampling to see what happens in this large group of people,” says Stephan Stenmark, infection control physician in the Västerbotten Region. , in a press release.
Now those responsible for the survey hope that everyone who took the test last week will do it again, also encouraging more people to participate in the survey.
During the next five days, students and staff have the opportunity to collect and submit samples. The goal is to offer up to 20,000 tests.
The purpose of the mass testing is to find out if regular teaching at universities increases the spread of the infection. By taking the test in two rounds, one at the beginning of the semester and again after students and staff have been on campus for a week, you will gain insight into the spread of the infection.
“By submitting as many samples as possible, we can see if we have taken sufficient steps to reduce the spread of infection at the beginning of the semester, or if more efforts are needed,” says Anders Johansson, infectious disease researcher at Umeå University and studio project manager.
