An area of 14,500 acres is currently on fire in a national park in Northern California.
A local emergency has been announced and authorities now announce that as many as 1,000 people may be trapped in the area.
“Those who are trapped should seek protection in the area, even if it means jumping into the water,” the park spokesman told local media.
A large wildfire is raging in the Mammoth Pool Reservoir in Sierra National Park, east of San Francisco, California. Local authorities have declared a local emergency and are urging people to flee the area.
But for many, it may already be too late to evacuate. Roads in and out of the Mammoth Pool Reservoir area are no longer usable due to the raging wildfire.

There are currently several large fires in California, one of which has caused campers to be trapped in a national park.
“Jump to the water”
The local police authority claims that at least 150 people are trapped in the area.
David Tune, a spokesman for the national park, told local television channel The Fresno Bee that there may be more than 1,000 people trapped in the Mammoth Pool Reservoir.
– There is a direct danger to people’s lives. Those who get caught must seek shelter in the area, even if it means jumping into the water, he says.
He believes that the approach of the authorities at this time is to ensure that people are safe and evacuate them from the area.
Two seriously injured
The wildfire that started Friday is currently about 14,500 hectares in size and threatens entire communities in the area, according to the channel.
450 firefighters fight to control the fire. Firefighters have been called in and so-called Blackhawk helicopters have evacuated 63 people so far.
Two of the evacuees must have serious injuries, 10 of them must have minor injuries and the remaining 51 people must have very minor or no injuries.
As a result of the great fire that occurred in the area, the police have chosen to ask the residents of a dozen communities in nearby municipalities to evacuate their homes.
22 big fires
The fire in Sierra National Park is one of many fires in California right now. The cause behind the fires is suspected to be the ongoing heat wave in the state where they are breaking heat records in many places with temperatures of nearly 50 degrees.
A total of 12,400 firefighters are fighting 22 major fires in the state. In total, about 600,000 acres are on fire in the state right now, according to the LA Times.
The U.S. National Weather Service has issued a warning for extreme heat in California and is now urging tens of thousands to stay home.
