Tam Tak-Chi, president of the Democracy People Power organization, was arrested at his home in eastern Hong Kong on suspicion of “speaking inflammatory words”.

– The man was arrested this morning after uttering inflammatory words in violation of existing regulations, says researcher Li Kwai-Wah, specifying that these are statements made in connection with the protests earlier this summer.

The deprivation of liberty takes place on the same day that Hong Kong would have held elections to the parliament of the area, an election postponed for the future with the pandemic as justification.

Many, however, see the pandemic as a pretext and a protest against the delay in the elections, Hong Kong’s covid-19 measures and the security law are planned for Sunday. More than 10,000 people have marked their interest on the event site.

Since the security law was introduced, the demonstrations have gotten smaller and smaller, compared to the massive protests that rocked the city last year.

At least 40 people, including protesters and activists, have reportedly been arrested in reference to the new law. Media mogul Jimmy Lai and activist Agnes Chow are two of them.
