It was a person from the public who alerted the police that there was a bag propped up against the police station.
– We received a call at 2:42 pm from a person saying that he sees something related to the Kristinehamn police station, some kind of bag. We have been to the scene and have assessed that we should handle it as a dangerous suspicious object, says Christina Hallin, a police spokeswoman.
At the time of writing this report, at 4 pm, the police are blocking two streets that pass by the police station. These are Västerlånggatan and Norra Staketgatan.
– We are beginning to evacuate two multi-family homes, says Christina Hallin.
Police say the roadblocks can be extended further. Evacuated people can gather at Stenstalidskolan.
A nearby nursing home has chosen to evacuate residents on its own initiative to facilities that are further away from the police station.
The national bomb squad was called to the scene to investigate the object.

Jonas Sjödahl lives in a house next to the police station.
– Actually, I got out before it crashed. Then I didn’t see anything. But when I got back around 3pm I was cordoned off. I live right outside the barrier and could walk in, he says.
