On August 21, the ruling parties, the Social Democrats and the Green Party, proposed that sports should receive an additional aid of 1 billion SEK due to economic losses due to the crown pandemic.
Now it is clear that the support will disappear after the proposal has received the support of the Center Party and the Liberals, says the Ministry of Culture in a press release.
– The government was already clear a couple of weeks ago that we want this and now I am glad that we agree on this with the Center and the Liberals, says Sports Minister Amanda Lind (MP) to Radiosporten.
No audience since March
Sport has been hit hard by the corona pandemic. The restriction on the number of people in public gatherings has meant that virtually all sporting events have been closed to the public since March and many associations have been without significant revenue since exercise competitions and other sports in general were canceled.
The new package is the second support the sport receives. In the spring, the government lobbied for 500 million crowns, but even then the president of the Swedish Sports Confederation, Björn Eriksson, declared that it would not be enough. Now it will be RF again who will distribute the money.
– Once the Riksdag has made a decision on this (the budget), we will present the more detailed guidelines for these billion. The government, together with the Swedish Sports Confederation, will produce this based on the lessons it has after the last 500 million for sports, Lind told Radiosporten.
