Due to the corona pandemic, no cruise ships have been seen in Gothenburg port. But on Friday morning there was a change in that, then the Hanseatic Inspiration ship made a stop at Stigbergskajen.
There were 51 passengers and a crew of 165 on board. The ship normally has a capacity for 270 passengers, but due to social distancing on board and ashore, only a fifth of the ship has been filled.
Shuttle buses were used to take passengers between the terminal and central Gothenburg.
“Social distancing”
– We have consulted with the VG region infection control doctor and the Swedish Maritime Administration and the overall assessment is that we can clearly carry out this call safely. It will be handled like a regular call with a series of risk minimization measures where social distancing and careful hygiene are the foundation, says Åsa Kärnebro, port captain at Gothenburg AB port, in a press release.
The cruise started in Hamburg on August 30 and stopped in northern Germany and Bornholm before arriving in Gothenburg.
Everyone on board the ship underwent a health check before the cruise began and a health statement was also sent to the port of Gothenburg.
Medical staff on board
“Otherwise, the same guidelines apply for cruise passengers as for other tourists when it comes to entry permits into Sweden,” says Åsa Kärnebro, in a press release.
The vessel also has medical personnel on board and can isolate areas in case passengers or staff show symptoms.
Once ashore, the 51 tourists will discover Gothenburg on foot and the cruise will continue on Saturday morning.
