Bengt Gustafsson remains on the ground while the SVT team installs the recording around him. The SVT paramedic makes sure you keep your leg up and constantly asks how you are feeling.

“It hurt”

Soon there are only a few accessories left on the beach and, together with the paramedic, Bengt Gustafsson tests if he can hold his leg. He is helped to limp away from the beach, all the time with his face twisted into grimaces.

– It hurts, it hurts, he says when Aftonbladet can talk to him a little later on Friday about the nasty accident.

– It was halfway there and then it broke. It was then that I had to turn around and continue backwards. So if it’s a cramp or a breakout I think and hope it’s a cramp. So it’s a bit calmer, because after a little treatment you should be in shape to fight again tomorrow.

But what if it is a breakup?

– Then it’s worse, of course. Then we’ll see you tomorrow. And that depends on what type of exercises it is. Maybe it’s something you don’t use as much calves on.

Are you worried that “Masters of the Masters” is over for you now?

– No clue. No, I don’t expect it. If so, you have a chance to re-qualify. Then maybe you have a few days to rehab and maybe you can qualify again. There are still opportunities, even if I couldn’t compete anymore right now.

May have lost the third participant

In the days before filming for “Mästarnas Mästare” began this week, it was clear that two contestants, back jumper Jan Boklöv and ice hockey player Anders Hedberg, had to abandon the recording on the advice of doctors.

Are you worried that this injury caused you to lose a third participant?

– Of course I am. Injuries are never fun, especially for your sake. It’s not good that he’s injured, but we don’t know what it is yet, so it remains to be seen, says Anders Wistbacka, project manager for “Mästarnas mästare” at SVT.

“Masters of the Masters” will air on SVT1 starting next year.
