In France, the next 9,000 new cases of corona infection have been recorded in the last 24 hours, according to the country’s public health authority. The number is the highest in one day since the pandemic hit France in mid-March.

The exact figure of 8,975 new cases reported Thursday through Friday is partly a result of strengthened testing capacity across the country, but the number is still significantly higher than the roughly 7,000 reported daily earlier in the week.

Furthermore, 53 new cluster outbreaks were reported in the country on Friday and 46 new patients received intensive care, meaning that a total of 473 covid patients are currently receiving intensive care in France.

As of Sept. 1, the French public health authority had recorded 30,661 corona-related deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic, and the authority warned Thursday that it was seeing a growing increase in new cases of infection.
