Through systematic cheating, housing contracts have fallen into the wrong hands, suspects Boplats syd, which mediates apartments in Skåne.
So far, 58 people have reported forgery to police, Hem & Hyra reports, and Boplats syd suspects more people.
– It’s a very extensive hack and it seems to come from the same place, CEO Krister Hjelm tells the newspaper.
The suspicions concern falsified certificates of income, employment and bank account statements. Over the summer, Boplats syd employees discovered that different homeowners had submitted certificates that were largely identical. According to Hjelm, the certificates have been so skillfully crafted that it has been difficult to detect the forgery when only looking at them separately.
After the discovery, Boplats syd has shared the information with other housing agencies and a similar document fraud has been discovered in Uppsala.
