Kenosha has been at the center of American politics since Jacob Blake was seriously shot by a police officer on August 23. The shooting sparked a wave of protests, prompting President Donald Trump to visit the city.
Two days later, Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden also traveled to Kenosha. Already at the Milwaukee airport a private meeting was held between Biden and the relatives of Jacob Blake.
In the afternoon, Biden went to Kenosha where he attended a meeting at a church. During the meeting, it emerged that Biden also spoke with Jacob Blake. Blake is no longer in intensive care, but is likely paralyzed from the waist down, according to the family’s attorney.
– He said that nothing would defeat him and that regardless of whether he could come back or not, he would not give up, says Joe Biden.
The manifestations after that The Jacob Blake shooting began peacefully, but partially degenerated into violence over several nights. The violence culminated on August 25, when two protesters were shot dead. An incarcerated 17-year-old has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
During his visit to Kenosha, Donald Trump focused on a message of law and order and that tough action is required against violent protests. He denied that racism occurs within the police force on a systematic level. He did not meet Blake’s family.
