After death threats and savage protests, the Jokerit’s away premiere against Dinamo Minsk has now been postponed.
The KHL club’s authorized private plan was canceled at the club’s request at the last minute.
According to a short announcement on official channels, the Helsinki club and the KHL league claim that tonight’s match against Dinamo Minsk in Belarus has been canceled.
No reason is given, so it has yet to be confirmed whether the decision was made at the initiative of Jokerit.
Threatens to boycott home games
According to information from the Finnish media, the reason is the numerous death threats that the Belarusian players have received, which has made them fear for their own safety and therefore make the decision not to play.
More information is expected on Thursday.
Jokerit’s participation in the matches has sparked a lot of emotions, both among Finnish politicians and among his own supporters, as Belarus is rocked by unrest with protests, riots and reported abuses.
The Jokerit fan club has announced that they intend to boycott the team’s home matches for the time being if the team chooses to play the match in the Belarusian capital. In Jokerit are Swedes Jonathan Pudas, Anders Lindbäck, Viktor Lööv and John Norman.
