On July 28, a group of unknown children robbed an 11-year-old boy at the Varvsparken playground in western Malmö, according to a police report prepared earlier this week.

The boy was playing soccer with a friend when the perpetrators approached him.

– According to the plaintiff, several guys came and asked him why he had a cross instead of a necklace, to which he replied that it was because of his religion, says Calle Person, press spokesman for the South Region Police.

Called “bastard pig”

The children are said to have behaved threateningly towards the boy and asked him if he ate pork, according to the report.

– He answered yes and was called a “bastard pig”. Then he was pushed to the ground and injured his arm or wrist, says Calle Persson.

So the perpetrators must have taken the boy’s shoes and soccer away. The boy got scared and ran from the scene.

He should not have been seriously injured, according to police.

The incident is now classified as robbery and the police suspect the motives of the hate crime.

– We are trying to investigate it now but we have no suspects at this time and we do not have good information on the perpetrators. What we do know is that there are several guys and they were all wearing hooded sweatshirts, says Calle Persson.

The police are now asking for tips.

– If you have heard or seen something, you should contact us, says Calle Persson.

The boy’s friend who was with him should not have been physically affected in connection with the incident.
