The family of accused terrorist Paul Rusesabagina, the hotel manager made world famous through the movie “Hotel Rwanda”, is demanding that the Rwandan authorities allow the case to be decided in an international court.

– If the Rwandan government believes it has a strong case against it in terms of terrorism or terrorist financing, then it will be allowed to take the case to an international court, says Roger, Rusesabagina’s son.

Rusesabagina, now 66, moved abroad after the 1994 genocide and has been highly critical of the country’s current president, Paul Kagame. On Monday, he was found handcuffed in Kigali, but when he was in the United Arab Emirates as recently as Thursday last week, his family believes that the Rwandan authorities have abducted him.

Rusesabagina is charged, among other things, with participation in “a violent armed extremist terrorist force”, murder, kidnapping and arson.
