Today the indictment came against Daniel Nyqvist, 37, who admitted to the double murder in Linköping almost 16 years ago. The investigation is the second largest in Sweden after Palme’s murder and could only be solved after police used innovative new DNA technology.
After Daniel Nyqvist was arrested, the police questioned the childhood friends and several of them testified about how their friend changed in high school.
The friend tried to notify the police several times; they only responded this year.
In one of the interrogations, one of the 37-year-old’s closest friends claims that he tried several times to report Daniel Nyqvist to the police, but that “they always disconnected him.”
“NN wants to remind you that the last time you called was about 5 years ago. On this occasion, she immediately requested to go to the investigators who were in charge of the case and was then directly connected with an investigator.”He says in the interrogation that has now been made public.
The last time the childhood friend told the police if Daniel Nyqvist was in the middle of January this year:
“NN described Daniel as a person who spoke of violence at an early age and who had a hat similar to the one the attacker had left in the immediate area. NN also thought that Daniel looked like the ghost image that is online.”.
This year was also the first time he had heard from the police.
“It has a special relationship with violence”
The friend should never have seen Daniel Nyqvist be violent, yet he could speak of violence. Especially later in the teens.
“According to NN, Daniel has a special relationship with violence and lacks empathy, while he was very kind to friends.“He says in questioning.
Finally, the childhood friend receives a question about the hat that the police found after the double murder, a hat that he recognized very well.
“Even when the perpetrator’s hat appeared in the papers, he felt a bit uncomfortable”.
