Watch the interview with Albin Ekdal on the player.
STOCKHOLM. Albin Ekdal believes his summer speech was misinterpreted and that he did not mean to criticize Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Erik Hamrén.
– Then you really have not understood, he tells Fotbollskanalen.
Albin Ekdal recounted in his summer talk how he experienced tactics during the 2016 European Championship.
“Zlatan was the big star. The league captain had given him the baton, the rest of us would trust Zlatan. But relying on just one man and thus unconsciously walking away from one’s responsibility doesn’t work in football or in no other team sport, “Ekdal said.
At Tuesday’s national team training, Ekdal was asked how his summer talk was received.
– 95 percent good reactions and 5 worst. All five were probably people who misunderstood me a bit when I talked about Zlatan and thought I cut him off, but then you haven’t really understood what I’m saying, says Ekdal and continues:
– Many thought that I jumped on him and said that he was directly bad for the team, and that was not what I said. I said that it could be someone that some people can’t handle with their temper.
The summer talk made headlines and criticisms of then-national team captain Erik Hamrén were also written about. And in an interview with Hela Hälsingland, Hamrén responded to the “criticism”.
– If you have a world player like Zlatan who is a world class spiker, you will want to give him the ball as much as possible in dangerous situations. But there was nothing that “all the balls go to Zlatan”. If we had had that tactic, it would have been too easy for the opponents, Hamrén said and continued:
– It’s more of a feeling that the players themselves had. If you have a world player like Zlatan, it’s probably easy to give up the responsibility even in situations where you shouldn’t. But it was not said that everything would go through Zlatan. We had several good offensive players on that team, so we didn’t test any tactic.
After Tuesday’s national team training at the Stockholm stadium, Ekdal was also asked how he sees Erik Hamrén choosing to respond to the “criticisms”, as it was written, and that it was he who gave the responsibility to Zlatan. .?
– But there was no criticism of Hamrén either. What I said was that when you have a world star like Zlatan, it’s normal for everyone to play with him. Then there was no criticism of Hamrén either. I don’t know if he perceived it that way, says Ekdal.
– If you have such a big star, it becomes normal to play with him a lot, and that was a bit what I criticized. They criticized both me and Hamrén or any other player. So there is no single individual to deal with.
