After a cold month of July, August was very hot in the summer, where it was very hot in some places. On August 9 this year, the heat record in Helsingborg was broken by as much as 32.5 degrees. On the same day, Lund was reported to measure 33.3 degrees.
In southern Sweden, the largest temperature differences are from previous years. In some places, the temperature is just over three degrees above normal, which means that August this year is the warmest since 2006.
Per Holmberg is clear that climate change does not have to be the reason behind this, at the same time that it cannot be ruled out either.
– This does not go against what you think will happen with climate change. It doesn’t deviate from the pattern, says meteorologist Per Holmberg, continuing:
– At the same time, it will change and there will be colder periods, he says.
Driest since 1945
The month of August had a long period of high summer without significant rains. This left it very dry in some parts of Sweden. The month of August at Vindeln-Sunnansjönäs in Västerbotten appears to be the driest since measurements began in 1945.
The intense summer heat disappeared in late August when a low pressure zone passed over Sweden, bringing with it cooler air and rainy areas.
