Gekås department store in Ullared, Halland, will open extensions within the building and open 3,000 square meters of new retail space within the department store in a few days.
As department stores attract long-distance visitors, the demand for nearby accommodations has also increased.
In a press release, the company’s chief executive, Boris Lennerhov, says that construction on a new commercial hotel will begin in September.
– We are building the new hotel opposite the existing one and connecting the two buildings with a glass walkway across the street. In total, we can offer just over 260 rooms just a couple of hundred meters from the department store, it says in the press release.
“It feels very good”
Furthermore, he says he thinks it is good that they are able to invest despite the ongoing corona pandemic which, like many other companies, has affected Gekås.
– It feels great that Gekås Ullared can make investments on this scale despite the difficult times we are going through now with the pandemic. We see a high demand for accommodation with all the amenities in close proximity to department stores, says Boris Lennerhov in the press release.
Construction will begin on the new Gekås Ullared hotel in September and it is expected that it can begin to open for guests in the summer of 2022.
However, when the hotel is ready, there will be a new CEO in Gekås, when Boris Lennerhov will hand over the baton to Patrik Levin at the end of the year.
