NEW YORK. Victor Hedman last night became the great hero of all Florida.
With a sudden death goal at the end of the second overtime period in the fifth round against Boston, he sent the Tampa Bay Lightning to the conference finals in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
– I did not see the album come in but hey everyone else started cheering. It was a fantastic feeling, says the Swedish star.
14.10 had passed the second overtime of the game, which was 2-2 at full time, when Victor Hedman hit the puck just inside the blue line.
He made a couple of cuts to the left technical circle, faked shots, finally shot between Brandon Carlo’s legs, on Boston Hill, and into Jaroslav Halak’s partially concealed arm.
Thus the game was decided, and also the series.
– I did not see the album come in but hey everyone else started cheering. It was a fantastic feeling, says the hero in the subsequent press conference.
– I’m very proud of how we got together. We really are a hungry team.
I did all the little things right
Before that, it was one of the softer force measurements between the two great teams. Tampa took the lead twice, but the Bruins, who really didn’t want to go home, came back, the last time with two and a half minutes left of game time.
– Yes, it was hard. We had to work hard. But we did all the little things right and it paid off, says “Vigge.”
The only milk:
Superstar Nikita Kucherov was injured after an incident with Zdeno Chara and was forced to cancel the match. Tampa already has Steven Stamkos on the DL so it would be very noticeable if he can’t play.
– I have no information on how he is with him, but hopefully we can have a little break now so he can get back in fighting condition, says coach Jon Cooper.
Tampa, which won four of four overtime dramas in this year’s playoffs, is first of all ready for the conference finals.
