The Left Party wants to reintroduce and adjust various taxes as a result of the pandemic in its parallel budget, writes Ulla Andersson, spokesperson for economic policy, on the Dagens Nyheter debate page.
We believe that more money is needed to pay for welfare during the pandemic, and therefore we have reviewed and adjusted your fiscal policy. The party wants to reintroduce the defense tax on income over SEK 62,000 per month, with an additional five percentage points on income over SEK 85,000. The money will go to health care and care for the elderly.
The party also wants to see a new wealth tax of 1.5 percent on net worth of 6 to 10 million SEK, which is then increased by two more steps to increase wealth.
The Left Party also wants to lower the state income tax limit to SEK 42,000 per month and have “more progressivity” in capital taxes. Additionally, the party wants to see properties with high appraised values pay more taxes.
However, according to Andersson, V wants to wait with an increase in restaurant VAT and corporate tax, as many companies are going through difficult times during the pandemic.
