– An agreement was reached to end the latest escalation and end the (Israeli) aggression against our people, says the staff of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.
Since August 6, recurrent rocket fire has been carried out at southern Israel from the Gaza Strip, which has since been exemplified by Israeli air strikes against targets in the Gaza Strip.
The Palestinians have also sent homemade firebombs, setting about 400 ground fires in southern Israel.
Many in poverty
Hostilities between Hamas and Israel have led to three wars: 2008, 2012 and 2014. Despite last year’s ceasefire supported by the UN, Egypt and Qatar, sporadic fighting breaks out regularly.
Roughly two million people live in the Gaza Strip, which is blockaded by both Israel and Egypt, of which more than half live in poverty, according to the World Bank.
Israel confirms
A Hamas source claims that some relief in Israel’s intensified blockade is part of the deal, which also includes other Palestinian militant groups, which Qatari envoy Mohammad al-Amadi has now loved with Egyptian help.
– Fuel supply will be resumed and the power plant will restart from Tuesday, says the source.
The Israeli body in charge of coordinating the country’s activities in the Palestinian territories, Cogat, confirms that an agreement has been reached. This means, among other things, that the border crossings for the importation of goods in the Gaza Strip will be reopened and that the fishermen in the area will be able to travel again with their boats 28 kilometers out to sea.
Cogat claims the agreement aims “for continued peace and security stability,” but also warns that if Hamas does not deliver on its promise, Israel “will act accordingly.”
