On July 18, a woman in her 80s was attacked in Falkenberg.
The suspect stabbed the woman and then disappeared on his bicycle. A suspect was arrested the next day, but was released the day after the arrest.
– We have no suspects at the moment. Suspicions against the man who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder have now been dropped. We could simply show that he had nothing to do with the attack, said Cecilia Bergsten, head of serious crimes in Halland at the time.
New leads in the investigation
Now the police have found new leads in the investigation and a man in his 25s is being held on reasonable suspicion of the attempted murder of the woman.
– The matter is delicate and it is still early. It has been a solid investigative work that has raised these suspicions. I do not pretend to go into what kind of investigation and details about the investigation, says Gisela Sjövall.
The woman who was seriously injured for a long time after being stabbed with a knife is feeling better today, the prosecutor says, and has left the hospital.
Police and prosecutors remain interested in the observations made in the area at the time of the attack.
– If they have any relationship between them or if it is unprovoked violence, it is too early to comment. We know how the crime was, more than that, unfortunately I can’t say, says Gisela Sjövall.
On the state of the evidence
Among other things, the police sent the woman’s clothes to the National Forensic Center (NFC), but the results were negative.
Police are also looking at phone masts in the area and which phones were connected in the area at the time of the attack.
What does the testing situation look like right now?
– He (the suspect) has been arrested on reasonable suspicion. So what evidence is available and the strength of the evidence can be shown during the course of the investigation. The police are working and then he will see what we landed on and if it will be enough to call for him to be detained.
