Chadwick Boseman, perhaps best known as the Marvel superhero “Black Panther,” was diagnosed with colon cancer four years ago. Several of his major film projects in recent years have been filmed and completed between surgeries and chemotherapy, while everyday life was a struggle for the actor, who kept his illness hidden.

On Friday he passed away, only 43 years old.

Shortly before his death, he had secretly married his great love: singer Taylor Simone Ledward.

His grandmother has previously said that the couple was in love and that “they respect each other, she is very happy and so is he.”

In March of last year, the actor himself spoke about the relationship for the first time, in his appreciation speech at the NAACP Image Awards when he was praised for his role in “Black Panther.”
