The larvae that Samuel Nilsson, 42, found in the bathroom looked like body worms.

When the bride to her horror found one in her hair, the couple realized that the bugs were coming from above.

– When we opened the valve on the roof, we saw that they were crawling over there. Later we saw a dead bird, then we understood it, says Samuel.

When Samuel Nilsson woke up in the morning, he first thought that the bugs in the sink in Södermalm’s Stockholm apartment were silverfish.

– I washed them and didn’t think about it anymore, he says.

Screamed in panic

But a few hours later, his terrified girlfriend noticed that bugs were everywhere. Dozens of little worms were crawling through the sink, some had fallen to the floor and were crawling around. The girlfriend started “cleaning crazy,” says Samuel.

– I took photos of them and started googling. There was something called a bath mask, but the ones we had didn’t look like them. The only thing that looked like them were worms.

There was a dead bird on the valve.

Samuel and his girlfriend were thoughtful. Why do worms come out of your sewers?

– My girl was cleaning and screaming that they were everywhere. Then she screamed in sheer panic, “I’ve got one in my hair!” Then we understood that they had to come from above, says Samuel Nilsson.

“Really disgusting”

Just above the bathroom sink is a valve with a fan.

– When we opened it, we saw that they were crawling over there. Later we saw a dead bird, then we understood. It was really disgusting.

The bird lay dead on the bath valve.

Samuel Nilsson recounts how he put on oven mitts and “discovered all the masculinity in me.” They pricked the bird for a few minutes.

– I don’t know what it was. A look, perhaps? It was disgusting anyway.

The bird was stone dead, but Samuel and his girlfriend were terrified that it would nonetheless come back to life and start flapping its wings. It was not like that and it was Samuel’s turn to carry it out.

– A dead bird in the street is one thing. Having to put your hand and half your arm into a little vent drum and pull one out was really disgusting, says Samuel.

After the bird was removed from the valve, the airflow immediately improved and the worms in the body are expected to soon be completely away from Södermalm’s apartment.

– I saw a worm crawling on the bird so it was obvious they were coming from there. We thought it smelled like a dead bird in the apartment for a while, but now it’s starting to get better, says Samuel Nilsson.
