The monitoring of cemeteries in the city of Stockholm will be expanded. The reason is the increase in crime.

It is the security companies that are normally in charge of the monitoring that will make more visits than before.

– We want to increase security. Every week, different types of crimes are committed in our cemeteries, so now we are strengthening vigilance, says citizen council for housing and real estate Dennis Wedin (M), to SVT Nyheter Stockholm.

Last weekend, two children were robbed, beaten and raped at Norra kyrkogården in Solna.

– Although the incidents are not as serious as that of the North Solna Cemetery, incidents occur every week. For example, it could be robbery, prostitution or reception, Wedin says.

The church administration is now also investigating the possibilities of closing and blocking larger cemeteries at night, and whether the city can increase lighting in cemeteries and increase camera surveillance.
