The alarm for the accident reached the rescue service shortly after 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Two cars had collided head-on in Oskarströmsvägen between Oskarström and Slättåkra at the height of Mossarp.

“Five people are involved and three people have been trapped,” said Peter Stened, the internal commander of the rescue service, after the initial alarm.

All those involved were taken to the hospital.

Five year old girl died

During the night, the police came out with the message that one of the passengers in one of the cars, a five-year-old girl, had died from her injuries. A one-year-old boy and a driver in his 30s were traveling in the same car, and both were said to have been slightly injured.

A woman also died: a driver is suspected of driving drunk

The other car was driven by a man in his 50s. According to police, he blew positively after the accident and is suspected of drunk driving, causing the death of another person and gross negligence in traffic. A woman in her 60s was also traveling in the same car. Both the man and the woman were seriously injured in the accident, according to police, and on Friday morning the authority announced that the woman also died of her injuries.

Suspect is awake – to be questioned

A little later, on Friday morning, police were able to tell that the suspect was awake and talking.

– He will be questioned soon. That’s good, because then maybe we can get an answer on who the woman who died is. We have our suspicions, but we must confirm them, says Peter Adlersson, police press spokesman, on Friday morning.

He also said that everyone involved is from the Halmstad area.

Cars must be examined

The police immediately rescued and seized the two cars. They must undergo a technical examination.

What answers can you get from that research?

– You can possibly get answers about the speed or if there was something wrong with any of the cars, says Adlersson.

It also mentions that if there is a witness who may have seen one of the cars before the accident, they can contact the police.

– If you have seen something strange in the driving style or similar, it may influence the problem of negligence, explains Adlersson.

The suspect has been released

After questioning the suspect, prosecutors decided that he should be released. However, he remains a suspect in the crimes, which fall under the headings of driving while intoxicated, grossly negligent in traffic, causing the death of another person and causing bodily injury.

– Now it is up to the investigation to give more answers, says Peter Adlersson, and continues:

– It is a very tragic event.
