Trump goes to the polls with no political program

LEADER. During last week’s party convention, Republicans have shown that they intend to take the discarded gauntlet of the Democrats and describe this year’s election as a path choice for America. We recognize Joe Biden’s message that America will not be the same amazing country if President Donald Trump is re-elected for four new years. Biden generally says that the soul of the nation needs to be repaired. After the Republican convention, now there is a fight for the soul of the nation: the message was that with Biden as president and his gang of radical socialists, America will be destroyed.

Trump needs to take something radical to change the narrative of the election campaign. Most problematic for him is that more than two-thirds of the population believes that the country is going in the wrong direction and that more than half believe that the president is doing a bad job.

The tactic has been to intimidate the electorate, and thus mobilize it. Trump seems to have been searching with lights and flashlights at the party headquarters for an old electoral strategy that would give him victory in the presidential election. At the beginning of the year, it was President Ronald Reagan’s optimism about the future and the messages of economic progress from the 1984 elections that needed to be emulated. This was followed by the worst economic quarter in the country’s history and rampant unemployment as a result of the corona pandemic. During the summer, it was President Richard Nixon’s message of law and order from the 1968 election that would bring electoral success. Then it turned out that more than a majority are behind the message that society must join forces against racism and racial discrimination, even if they do not support parts of the vandalism and use of force by the protest movements. Now the Trump campaign seems to have finally encountered the red horror of McCarthyism of the 1940s and 1950s. The idea is simple, by incorrectly portraying Biden and Kamala Harris as radical socialists, the American middle class is expected to go from home to home. electoral college to stop them.

It is telling that Donald Trump’s Republicans have become the post-materialist critics who often criticize the left for being. They resort to rhetorical puppets and, for the first time since the presidential elections of 1856, the Republican Party has no electoral program. The party does not go to the polls for politics, but for Donald Trump and for being the antithesis of the Democrats. For the grassroots, the grassroots movement will be about opposing the left in society, with loyal Trump supporters paying tribute to the leader for his handling of the crown crisis, though it can only be described as a failure. It is the ideas of the left within academia, within the media, among the wealthy, among public officials, and within the elite that are at the door. It is a way of thinking that can be recognized in other parts of the world.

The reform proposals are conspicuous by their absence. It does not address how the US will resolve any of the many ongoing internal crises, what the way forward should look like, there are no proposals and which country should be the US In four or more years, there are no visions. That “Making America Great Again, Again” – as Vice President Mike Pence put it in his speech at the convention on Wednesday (8/26) – is not enough as a goal.

Of course, it should not be ruled out that Trump nonetheless manages to be re-elected. At the same time, four years ago, most people were convinced that Hillary Clinton would be the 45th president of the United States. Clinton, however, was never that good at the polls, especially not at the state level, as Biden does and Trump later ran as a challenger to the establishment, today he is president and also fails at his job at a time when the country goes through serious crisis. What still gives Trump a significant opportunity is precisely that he is president, they are generally re-elected and that his voters appreciate him and want to keep him in the White House; their confidence figures have remained virtually unchanged at around 40 percent throughout the period.

In stark contrast to Trump, Biden’s biggest problem is that he doesn’t get voters excited. Most of Biden’s voters are more interested in getting rid of Trump than in getting Biden. And Biden has barely started a campaign yet, something that will pose a risk because of the candidate’s inexperience in making and getting entangled in frogs. The electoral campaign, until November 3, 2020, will be long.
