Franz Brorsson extended his contract with Malmö last winter and loaned it to Danish Esbjerg along the same lines.
Now that Denmark is starting to open up the partnership and football will start after the Corona crisis, the MFF center-back hopes to help Esbjerg fulfill the contract and stay in the highest league.
– It’s good that soccer starts. But here in Esbjerg, only grocery stores are open right now, so there isn’t much to do here.
– There was a two month break here when Denmark closed before Sweden. We couldn’t train, we didn’t go to the gym, but we drove home on our own.
– But now we will start on May 31 and we will see how it is. It will continue in June and then we will see how things go on their own, he says.
Your loan agreement expires last June, how do you think about it?
– I haven’t written anything new, so we’ll see when the game schedule arrives and then I don’t know how the rules work. If possible extend the loan unless allsvenskan starts.
Are you talking about extending the loan?
– Yes, Esbjerg wants it. They have a lot of players on loan and they want to extend those contracts because otherwise they don’t have players. So I am in a difficult situation whether to return or not.
– You can see if all Swedes start and what the rules say. If the Danish league has to finish first before they can play in Sweden. Because if it has to end and I can’t play in Sweden, it’s no idea to go back.
– There is still nothing new in Sweden when allsvenskan should start either.
He chose to move to Denmark
Franz Brorsson decided to get a loan to get playing time after a year that contained many injuries.
– I went to Esbjerg to recover after a year full of injuries, but there has not been so much football. I played the games that were before it broke. There are now eight rounds left here in Denmark.
What do you think would be best for you, extending the loan in Esbjerg or returning to Malmö FF?
– It depends, as I said, on what the rules say. If the Danish league continues here and my loan contract expires, while the rules in Sweden say that I must not play at allsvenskan, then it is equally good to stay here. So I can play games here, finish, and I hope we will stay there and then go back to Malmö FF and play with them at allsvenskan.
– It can be a pain for us in Esbjerg when we are in penultimate position and we have three points up. But it can go fast because it is the playoffs here and if you start to win you can go up quickly and a lot can happen.
It would have been nice to help Esbjerg stay and then go back to MFF and run through the Europa League and Allsvenskan qualifiers. This is how I see it without knowing exactly how it will be.
He played over 110 games for MFF
Brorsson has made a total of 111 matches for Malmö FF, made two A-country matches and played in Europe with MFF. He still dreams of achieving success with the club closest to his heart and also says that Blågult’s dream is alive.
– It would have been nice to have a full season with Malmö FF and show what you can. There is a lot of rotation in Malmö FF because it is a big team and I have been in 25 games when I played, as I did last season.
– Only Johan Dahlin plays every game. If you do your 20-25 matches at allsvenskan per year, the opportunity will come abroad. Now it is becoming more difficult as clubs may not have the same finances.
– But Malmö FF is a very nice and big club, so it would have been perfect to have a few years in Malmö FF and grow more before going abroad. It would have been fun to experience the Europa League or Champions League with MFF. That is what you expect again.
Have you talked to new coach Jon Dahl Tomasson?
– No, not the last time. I have spoken with assistant coach Daniel Bäckström about how my training is organized. I have an Esbjerg schedule and a Malmö FF schedule and I run many of those parts. But that hasn’t happened that much in Sweden, either, and there probably hasn’t been much to talk about.
How do you see the year that passed?
– I had a strong infection there in the preseason and I couldn’t do well in the preseason. It made me fall behind in training and also in the hierarchy. Then I came back and played against AIK, against Häcken and some Europa League match.
– I made a goal in the Europa League and I felt like I was leaving. Then I had a hip rest against Häcken and hit him later in the fall and then the season was almost over. But there was nothing to complain about, there are many players who have had cruciate ligament injuries and the like, although injuries are never fun.
After last season, Malmö FF bought coach Uwe Rösler from his contract, even though the German had one year left. Erdal Rakip is one of the many MFF players who have testified about Rösler’s slightly strange and tough leadership style. Franz Brorsson was also affected by the outbreak of German insanity and, among other things, he was caught in the bathroom by Rösler, after an away game against Häcken.
– Yes, there are many, many stories about that guy, says Brorsson.
But what happened when he locked you in the bathroom?
– No, that was just before last year. His first year was against Häcken and then there was a duel in the middle ground where he discovered that he was not cleaning properly. It was 1-1 and he wanted to keep the ball alive and chase a goal when there was little left of the game.
– But then I dropped a player, got a yellow card and they got a free kick. Then he thought it should have been a red card for me. And he said he couldn’t bear the press. By then he had made 90 games for MFF and this was a game against Häcken gone.
– I just: Eh? There is probably no pressure to play against Häcken. So I didn’t understand what he meant. He’s an impulsive guy and he doesn’t care when he says certain things. Then it has many other sides, where it gets a lot out of the team. People do not cheat when they are with him. We cheated in fixed situations before he came and we were bad there.
– No one could hear him then. But when he came in, everyone was told what they were doing wrong and cheating, and then we barely allowed any goals in fixed situations.
But just because he locked you in the bathroom sounds very exaggerated, what do you think about it?
– No, but that was special, you can say it. Basically it was wooded and I didn’t think I was holding the press. Clearly, this is not normal behavior in Sweden and also in general. But it may well have happened in a similar way in Europe and I can handle it, although I thought it was strange.
– The same thing happened with Erdal Rakip. The team was lost in a corner and was not allowed to play for two and a half months. And then Erdal could be the best in practice for several weeks in a row and he couldn’t play for a minute.
– After all, Erdal has been open to going out and saying and I thought he was sick how he (Uwe Rösler) can ruin a career, or at least give a player less chance of success.
Did he apologize to you after that incident?
– Nerd. It was just an event in the crowd. In the end, you get used to it and every time similar things happen it means less and less. Occurred.
– In the end, you lost respect for when someone is like that. When it doesn’t matter if you do something good and the coach yells anyway. It will be a little difficult to read.
– No one can complain about its results, it is not a snack. So perhaps Malmö FF did not want his long-term leadership.
From the Malmö FF press conference last winter where they announced that coach Uwe Rösler will resign.
