Trips of one or two hours by car from the place of residence can be made under certain conditions. But that does not mean everything is as usual: common sense and great caution apply, Prime Minister Stefan Löfven (S) says at a press conference.

Foreign Minister Ann Linde (S) justifies the decision to extend the recommendation for unnecessary travel abroad:

– Quarantine regulations are reality in a large part of the countries of the world, the uncertainty is great. It is not possible to predict when it will be possible to travel freely. The recommendation can be extended or canceled before July 15.

She says the government welcomes the tourism guidelines published by the European Commission on Wednesday.

– We welcome you and return when the different parts have been analyzed in more detail.

The message of the new advice for trips for an hour or two by car from the place of residence should not be seen as a sign that the danger has passed, according to Social Minister Lena Hallengren (S).

– On the contrary, we hope that people can continue to take responsibility. So far, healthcare is a challenge, but we must show solidarity with healthcare professionals across the country. Don’t risk making your already difficult jobs even more difficult, she says.

When many countries in Europe begin to talk about exit strategies, the Director General of the Public Health Agency, Johan Carlson, points out that there is a long way to go for an “exit” from the pandemic.

– Most of the advice we have given will be relevant during the summer. We will try to deliver summer-ready directives through early June, says Carlson.

It also clarifies what is now the case for shorter domestic trips:

– It assumes that you do not know groups of elderly or at-risk people, do not participate in broader social contexts, and have trips and accommodation that provide the least possible social contact.

According to the EU Commission guidelines presented on Wednesday, mouth protectors must be worn during the trip. The Public Health Authority doubts how effective it is.

– Mouthguards in public spaces do not provide greater protection to the population, says Johan Carlson.

Stefan Löfven agrees with the criticism.

– There is a risk of false security, that you may think you will not become infected if you have mouth protection, says the prime minister.
