During Wednesday afternoon, the Public Health Authority reported today’s figures on the number of deaths as a result of covid-19 in Sweden.
In Västra Götaland, 47 other people died as a result of the corona virus. The total death toll in the county reaches 351 people.
– It is difficult to know if the high numbers are maintained. We have an increase in the number of cases of disease. Yesterday the figure was 3,679 people and today it is 3,785. A large part of today’s tests are personal tests and fewer are seriously ill, says Leif Dotevall, infection control doctor.
“An accumulation”
He explains that Wednesday’s high death toll is due to an accumulation of statistics.
– The deceased’s numbers soared today. But it is not unexpected because it is a delay. I think you can expect this to decrease. Death figures will drop, says Leif Dotevall.
Explains that the average age of the deceased as a result of covid-19 in Sweden is high.
– If you look in Sweden, the average age of those who die is 82 years. It is a serious infection and it is clear that it is an increasingly older and more vulnerable population, says Leif Dotevall.
Neighboring region numbers.
In Jönköping county, eleven people have been reported dead in the past 24 hours. There, the total number of deaths is 108 people.
In Halland, one person died in the last 24 hours and the total number is 44 people who died as a result of the corona virus.
And finally, the Värmland region has been saved from further deaths even at the age of 22.
Today’s figures
On May 13 at 1 p.m. At 11:00, there were a total of 330 hospitalized patients with covid-19 positive, of whom 89 were in the intensive care unit (VAT), in hospitals in the Västra Götaland region.

Sahlgrenska University Hospital: 178 people, including 47 in VAT
Hospitals in the west: 37 people, including 12 in VAT
