Controversial Lesotho Prime Minister Thomas Thabane will file a dismissal request on Wednesday, he told AFP.

The 80-year-old man refers to his old age, but Thabane has been pressured to leave his post after being accused of the murder of his ex-wife. The Prime Minister appeared in court but was not formally charged with murder. The case has not yet been decided.

Lipolelo Thabane divorced Thomas Thabane when she was shot to death outside her home in 2017.

The Lesotho Government Coalition recently cracked down after three out of four parties abandoned cooperation. Thabane was intended to lead a transitional government until May 22, but demands have been raised in the small southern African kingdom for his resignation before that.

King Letsie III must formally approve the Prime Minister’s resignation request.
