Last year, the Land and Environment Court decided that the state should pay SEK 18 million to forest owners who have not received compensation when they were denied the right to harvest forests that are considered to have extra natural values high.

The sentence was appealed by the state before the Land and Environment Court, which in a sentence decides the verdict. Landowners should receive compensation for their forest. The sum also rises to SEK 19 million.

Can be appealed

One of the five parties that sued the state is Tärna Stensele and the Sorsele Public Forest.

– Of course we are very happy. It has been a matter of destiny for us. We are satisfied with the result, Anders Pettersson, manager of Tärna-Stensele and Sorsele’s Common Forest, tells SVT Västerbotten.

He adds that it is not possible to charge too much in advance, because the sentence can be appealed to the Supreme Court.

According to the judgment of the Land and Environment Court, the state must also pay the legal costs of the counterpart.
