On November 26, Stina Nilsson makes an international debut in biathlon.

Now confirm the star itself.

– Yes, then I’ll be at the starting line, he says to Sportbladet.

52 days have passed since the news bomb exploded that five-time Olympic medalist Stina Nilsson leaves cross-country skiing for the biathlon.

The change was confirmed amid the ongoing pandemic and the crown crisis will inevitably affect his reload for the debut season as a biathlon. All camps planned until August are canceled and the national team is forced to continue running in Östersund.

– But it suits me perfectly. Östersund is the house plan for me and I really enjoy it here, says the 26-year-old.

Debut in November

At the end of last week, the schedule for the next season was released at the IBU Cup, the level during the World Cup. The premiere will take place on Swedish soil in Idre on November 26, which is also when Stina Nilsson plans to make a debut in international competition.

– Yes, then I’ll be at the starting line. At least that’s the hope, she says.

How long do you long?

– Right now I feel so good in my daily life that, frankly, I don’t think much about what awaits us this winter. The focus is on doing a good summer workout with good preparation, says Nilsson.

The unexpected change from the cross-country ski star to biathlon has sparked many reactions in the world of winter sports. Most notable was Russian longtime manager Jelena Välbe’s suggestion that Nilsson change sports because “she couldn’t accept younger riders showing up who could beat her.”

But that quote that Stina Nilsson hasn’t even read.

– I have deliberately chosen not to participate in all reactions, positive and negative. I feel like I don’t need to know everything that is said and written. The thought will always be there and certainly people will really like things, but there is nothing they need to know, she says.

So you don’t read anything that’s written?

– No. I do my thing and I do it just because I think it’s fun, “says Stina Nilsson.
