Foreign travel restrictions and the call to avoid unnecessary travel within Sweden, as well as the sharp slowdown in business, have dramatically affected air travel. According to Swedavia, Stockholm Arlanda, Sweden’s largest airport, had just over 46,000 passengers in April compared to just over 2 million travelers in the same month last year.
– Although we now see early signs that economies are opening and airlines plan to resume some traffic, uncertainty about the market situation and when restrictions can be lifted remains very high. Therefore, we do not expect air traffic to recover significantly in the coming months. Furthermore, there is considerable uncertainty about what the structural consequences will be for the future airline market, “says Jonas Abrahamsson, President and CEO of Swedavia, in a press release.
The company, which operates a total of ten airports in Sweden, now loses around SEK 500 million in revenue per month.
