During Almedals Week 2019, the new leader of the Liberal party, Nyamko Sabuni, launched a proposal for a commission for the electrification of freight transport.
Svenska Dagbladet’s Annie Reuterskiöld could reveal that the proposal came from bus and truck maker Scania and a public relations agency founded by former Liberal party secretary Johan Jakobsson.
Liberals got the electrification commission in the government’s fall budget for 2020.
Johan Jakobsson should also have been involved in the campaign for Sabuni to be chosen as the party’s leader, according to SvD, which refers to some 20 sources with transparency.
The SvD could also reveal that Nyamko Sabuni does not write important speeches, but that former party leader and prominent lobbyist Lars Leijonborg does.
“Just gossip”
In an interview with today’s industry, Sabuni defends himself from harsh criticism. According to her, the proposal for an electrification commission was firmly anchored in the party board.
– When I contacted my party’s board that I intended to propose that the government bring together major players to accelerate the change in cargo transportation, everyone thought it was good, “he tells Dagens Industri.
To her anonymous critics within the liberals, she says:
– My message to these people is that I always defend my opinion. I have raised two children and I tell them to always defend their opinion. And if you can’t bear it, don’t express it. So it’s just gossip.
About Leijonborg’s role, Sabuni says to Di:
– Most liberals work somewhere, few of us support each other with political missions or as political officials. That would exclude conversations with certain members because they work in a certain type of industry, it doesn’t work.
On Friday night, representatives of the liberals held a crisis meeting on the tasks of the Swedish Democratic Alliance, Aftonbladet reported. Some of the newspaper’s sources did not believe lobbying in politics was something to debate about, while others wanted to hold the party’s leadership accountable.
– This is cutting the hearts of the liberals and is contrary to the culture of our party. We must defend an intellectually honest policy. Now it looks like we are an outstretched arm for a public relations agency, an unnamed source told Aftonbladet.
