On Saturday, an SMHI warning about snowfall in Dalarna, Hälsingland, Medelpad, Västerbotten and Norrbotten came in connection with a cold western front. On Sunday, the snow started, and locally there was up to ten inches of snow.
“In northern Dalarna and western Gävleborg counties it has reached ten centimeters,” says Chrysanthi Unnerstad, a meteorologist at SMHI.
In Västerbotten and Norrbotten there were a few centimeters of snow, while parts of northern Lapland received a decimeter.
During Sunday afternoon, SMHI removed its warning when the worst snowfall ended.
– Now that it has been discontinued or is about to be discontinued, the warning has disappeared. I think it was okay to get a warning because it is too late in the season and it actually hit ten inches of snow.
When the last snowfall has fallen in Dalarna on Sunday night, it appears to be relatively snow-free for a time.
– It is still cold now and there may be some occasional snowfall, but no significant snowfall area is looming, says Chrysanthi Unnerstad.
