The socialization of the royal family with questioned billionaires

It is the Danish BT newspaper reporting that all of Denmark’s wealthiest members seem to have grown closer to the Danish royal family in recent years.

According to the newspaper, members of royalty often lean on these people when they ask for advice of an economic nature.

At the same time, it is a fact that several of them are regularly invited to castle parties and annual royal hunting events.

Several of these individuals have also received royal honorary degrees over the years, opening doors for future business.

Part of denmark

Christoph Ellersgaard, professor at the CBS Copenhagen Business School, has researched the Danish power elite and has also written a remarkable book on how 423 Danes rule the country.

He says to BT:

– In relation to the few billionaires that we have in Denmark, it is impressive that so many of them have been able to become chamberlains.

After being appointed Chamberlain, you have the opportunity to attend Danish state visits abroad and also participate in other important royal events.

According to Christoph Ellersgaard, it is like being part of official Denmark.

The last date of the chamberlains was for the birthday of Queen Margaret on April 16.

Then, foreigner and billionaire Hans Michael Jebsen received the distinguished title.

He then joined an exclusive crowd of billionaires with, among others, Lego owner Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, Danfoss owner Jørgen, Dads Clausen and Maerskarvtagaren Ane Uggla, who also lives in Stockholm.

– I imagine there are more interesting people to invite to a real party than these. After all, you could have invited prominent trade unionists, cultural figures, or other important people, Ellersgaard argues.

At the same time, he points to several well-known events in which the Danish power elite established and helped the Danish royal house in various ways.

One of those events was when three of the country’s wealthiest families behind Lego, Danfoss og Ecco 2014 helped raise funds for a fund that allowed Prince Joachim and his family to leave Schackenborg Castle in Jutland, after the property was bought by private hands.

– It is my definitive impression that if you look at the list of chamberlains, there are some with military rank. Some others belong to ancient noble families. Everyone else is mostly people with more than a billion in the account, says Christoph Ellersgaard, according to BT.

Becoming a problem

He believes that the close relationship between the royal household and the very wealthy is not entirely problematic.

– Genetic services and services would certainly have received criticism if they had been carried out in the ordinary state administration. When the royal house awards honorary titles it is because they have done something good for Denmark. But if you start distributing titles in light of gifts for the royal house, it becomes a problem.

BT magazine has asked the Danish court for a comment on the information. Among other things, people have wanted answers to how many of the richest people in the country have been named chamberlains.

The Danish court has not returned with these responses.
