The daughters fight in hell – tried to save mom

The children realized that it was not good between their parents. Mom wanted a divorce and Dad was upset. But no one imagined what would happen on the night of December 18, 2019 at the family home in Botkyrka.

It was two o’clock:

“I woke up because my mother was screaming and burning,” says one of the three adult daughters in a police interview.

– I took a towel hanging from the stairs, tried to pull it out. Then I went into the bathroom, blushed, took the fire extinguisher, and tried to extinguish everything I could.

The fire of death in the house

On the night of December 18, 2019, police and emergency services were alerted to a house in Tumba after a fire alarm. A woman and her 20-year-old son died in the fire.

The father of the family, a man in his 60s, is arrested on suspicion of murder in two cases, in addition to arson.

On May 7, 2020, charges are filed against the father for the murders and the fire. According to prosecutors, the man poured gasoline on his wife and then lit it. The reason is said to be a divorce initiated by the wife.

The stories of the daughters at night are almost identical.

– So I did, I woke up to hear my mother scream, so I just ran to her room, says the other of the three women.

– I just ran away and saw my mom there, says the third.

“He never said anything, never”

Two of the daughters tell how the father of the house acted during the hell of the fire:

– He stayed, he kept a can of gasoline that I know is for our lawn. I think it was green, says one.

– He just stood there frozen. He, he, he didn’t wake any of us up. (…) He said nothing, never, nothing, says the other.

The fire killed two lives. The adult children of the mother and the family. I slept in the same room.

According to chamber prosecutor Emma Olsson, the fire went like this:

– He (dad) drinks alcohol at night and then leaves the house. Shortly before two o’clock at night, refuel twelve liters of gasoline that he brings back.

– Go upstairs to the bedroom where the wife and son sleep. Pour gasoline over it and then light a fire.

“He stumbles to pour gasoline”

According to Emma Olsson, the reason was that the father of the house could not accept the wife’s will to divorce.

The father himself has a completely different version of the course of events. Lawyer Anna Dahlbom Langley calls it a “terribly tragic event,” but says her father was not looking for a fire.

– When he enters the room, he stumbles over the gasoline. In the same second that happens, the wife casts a warm light on him, causing a fire.

Dad is accused of two murders and arson. The trial will begin soon in the Södertörn District Court.
