SMHI class 1 warns of snow: here it snows in Värmland

A setback for spring is what you might call it. During Sunday SMHI issued Class 1 snowfall warnings issued from Värmland and everywhere north of Västerbotten inland. It can measure between 5 and 10 centimeters and one of the places where it has snowed is Höljes in the municipality of Torsby, not far from the Norwegian border.

– It probably started in the small hours. The old man had gotten up at five o’clock and by then he had already begun to fall asleep. Then it snowed quite well and forward eight was completely covered. It was fast, says Peggy Lomarker.

At eleven o’clock, he discovers that the flakes have gotten a bit thinner, but that they continue to fall from the sky.

– They say they will be reduced to three snow storms before the heat hits. This is the second this year, so we’ll see if anything else comes up. Last year we had a very good month of May and compared to then it’s late. It’s kind of depressing, you expect more summer weather, says Peggy Lomarker.

Meteorologist: “April weather”

Peggy, who also shared her snow photos with SVT Nyheter Värmland, says that at the end of April it was 16-17 degrees in Höljes, but that it is now above zero.

Meteorologist Johan Groth explains that it is a low pressure that on Saturday night began to move from the center to the north of Norrland and that it provides “strong echoes” even in, for example, Värmland.

– Along with that, temperatures are dropping, he says.

Johan Groth continues:

– It is April weather even though it is May. It is this constant struggle that is in the spring.

Lower temperatures

Further south, as in Gothenburg, it will not snow. However, at least as far as Lake Vänern, it can get icy overnight by Monday.

– It is not very common with snow in these parts of the country now, but previously I have been around Valborg in Uppsala in wet snow, so it happens. It will be much cooler next week, says Johan Groth about the temperatures to come.
