According to the country’s president, Nicolás Maduro, three other people were arrested in Venezuela on suspicion of being involved in last weekend’s alleged coup attempt against the regime in Caracas.

A total of 34 people have been detained in connection with the investigation of the incident, when a group of suspected mercenaries attempted to enter the Venezuelan seaway near the Caracas international airport.

“We have been meticulously looking for everyone involved, and we will catch them all,” Maduro said in a televised speech.

The unsuccessful “invasion”, like the Venezuelan leader compared to the 1961 Pig Bay invasion, is surrounded by question marks. A former US military man who is now active in the security industry took over the operation. However, a secret document released by The Washington Post earlier this week indicates that even an adviser to opposition leader Juan Guaidó has been involved in the plans, at least at an early stage.

Guaidó himself refuses to interfere, like the United States and Colombia, which were also pointed out by Maduro.
