On Friday night, an email was sent to the liberals. In it: a statement by party leader Nyamko Sabuni.
The email was prompted by a review by Swedish police reporter Annie Reuterskiöld this week. The magazine has spoken to some 20 sources within L and the lobbying industry, which paints a picture of a party in which political issues are chiseled in a collaboration between party leaders and lobbyists.
One of Sabuni’s great successes as party leader is the proposal for an electrification commission he presented in Almedalen, which is now one of the 73 points of the January agreement. The man behind the proposal is, according to SvD, Johan Jakobsson. Jakobsson is currently head of communications and opinion formation in the Swedish business community, but previously founded the Nordic Public Affairs agency, and was even a former party secretary under the board of Lars Leijonborg L. During his time in the AP office, Jakobsson has been a very important and informal advisor to Sabuni, writes SvD.
Transportation giant Scania has been a client of Nordic PA for many years, and the agency’s mission has been how an electrification commission could be. Jakobsson was responsible for this, and two months later Sabuni presented the proposal in Almedalen last year.
Gathered in a crisis meeting
In addition, several of Nyamko Sabuni’s political speeches have been written by former party leader Lars Leijonborg, now a lobbyist for the Diplomat Communications agency.
The review has attracted a lot of attention in the past few days. The data comes in the midst of a time when liberals are struggling with declining opinion numbers and are regularly below the small party barrier in opinion polls.
On Friday night, a crisis meeting was held for an explanation of the information, Aftonbladet writes. Some sources tell the newspaper that lobbying is daily in politics; others want to respond to the party leader.
– This is cutting the hearts of liberals and is contrary to our party culture. We must defend an intellectually honest policy. Now it looks like we are an outstretched arm for a public relations agency, an unnamed source tells the newspaper.
Sabuni: “I’m sorry”
A few hours later, an email was sent to all members of the Liberals. In it, party leader Nyamko Sabuni responds to information from the lobbyist. She writes:
“Some of you have noticed an article in SvD the other day, based on anonymous sources, that criticize and want to address the suspicions that we have listened to companies for our proposal on how we should accelerate the transition to fossil-free transportation. Liberals are an optimistic technology party that has long held the position that as many transports as possible need to be electrified. “
“As politicians, we are responsible for facilitating this transition. Therefore, it is important to create the conditions for constructive cooperation between the actors of the business community and the relevant authorities within which they can jointly develop proposals for solutions. ”
Sabuni also writes:
“I am sorry that our interest in listening to business is described in negative terms. Only by listening can we develop a policy that meets the challenges facing society. ”
