Sweden’s strategy to manage the crown eruption is highlighted in Europe and the world. Although several countries are more or less closed, most are still open in Sweden.
This weekend, Aftonbladet reported on European “luxury tourists” who went to Sweden to get their hair done, party and go to a restaurant.
– It is the women of Europe who travel here because their own countries have closed. They come here to fix their hair and nails, eat at a restaurant, and then party at night, hairdresser Sofia told the magazine.
There is a ban on entry to Sweden until May 15. But this does not apply to EU countries, nor to the United Kingdom, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Switzerland.
“Here we are free”
The couple Razvan Oancea and Valentina Enescu from Romania are some of those who moved from the quarantine of their country of origin to Sweden. They sit in the sun on a wooden bench in central Stockholm when Expressen finds them.
What do you think of the crown?
– I have no opinion because I’m not a doctor, but I don’t like the effects. That is why we have come from Romania to Stockholm, because here we are free. You can walk, eat out, shop, and you can cut here. In Romania, you can only go out if you have documents with you and only to eat and go to work, says Razvan, who works as a notary public.
– Restaurants, hotels, cafes and more are closed.
– You shouldn’t go out without a document, adds Valentina, environmental engineer.
Romania has almost 10,000 confirmed cases of covid-19 and around 500 deaths from the disease. The country has been more or less closed.
“They are jealous of everything we can do”
How did you get here?
– The day we went there were three flights from Bucharest and one of them was to Stockholm. We can stay two weeks, or maybe more, depending on the events in Romania, says Razvan.
What are you doing in Stockholm these days?
– We go for a walk every day, we look around us, we go to restaurants and eat. We are free to do things here, says Valentina.
They live at six, a newly built luxury hotel on Brunkebergstorg in central Stockholm. They don’t know what they think of Sweden’s position on the crown issue, they say. “It may take time.”
What do your friends and family say that you are in Stockholm, Sweden?
– They are jealous of everything we can do. He was going to cut me tomorrow, which he had not been able to do in Romania, says Valentina.
