Mohammed Buya Turay almost always has a smile on his lips.
In Djurgården, he will be remembered forever as the golden hero who put his pants on his head and sang: “Come on guys, hey hey!”
But you can also get angry. Really angry
When Djurgården’s long and long gold celebration ended, the phone rang in the Clock Tower office at Stockholm Stadium.
“Did you spend money on me?”Buya Turay waited on the other end of the earpiece.
What is this about? Two bonuses and a knowledge gap.
On January 9, 2019, it became clear that Mohamed Buya Turay had signed a loan agreement with Djurgården that spanned one season. In that deal, it was written that he would receive pretty fat bonuses, whether Djurgården took home SM gold or wanted to have the shit home of allsvenskan.
More precisely: SEK 500,000 for gold and SEK 100,000 for the marksman’s title.
Occasionally it sounded unlikely. Very few people thought that Djurgården could challenge Malmö FF and AIK for the title. And many saw Buya Turay as a kind of gamble, although he had impressed both AFC and Dalkurd before being acquired by Belgian Sint-Truiden 2018.
But it was, as you know, an incredible success.
Mohamed Buya Turay scored 15 goals, became Allsvenskan’s shooting king and helped Djurgården to the club’s first SM gold in 14 years … so why didn’t SEK 600,000 appear in his bank account? Why was it just below SEK 200,000?
“I will have more money than this!”, Buya Turay said while calling Djurgården.
It was then that he learned about the rules of the Swedish Tax Agency. With this type of bonus, the tax is close to 60 percent.
The zoo had not flown it.
Mohamed Buya Turay calmed down pretty quickly. And soon the smile returned.
