Malmö FF has never had more members than at the moment. The previous record number was approved on Wednesday and the club had 7,715 members on Wednesday.
– And we are only in the month of April, so we will surely be more members and we will break the record many times during the year, says the member in charge Pierre Nordberg.
MFF CEO Niclas Carlnén reports at the club’s recent annual meeting, which they attended in regular order.
The previous record was 7,702 members and the person who became a member 7,703 was raised by the association. Other members then checked in after this in the morning.
That membership is higher than ever now is a combination of several causes.
Malmö FF has traditionally high membership numbers and gained a lot of momentum when the club entered the 2014 Champions League, when membership meant that it could also buy tickets earlier than other groups.
– We had 2,756 members in 2013. Then we went over 4,400 when we entered the Champions League and in 2015 the speed increased a lot. Since then we have been above 6,000, says Pierre Nordberg.
In the fall of 2019, the subject of a merger with LB07 was a hot potato and many became members so that they could listen to their meeting at the additional annual meeting.
– We saw it a few years earlier also when women’s football emerged. More and more people have realized the importance of associative democracy and how to participate and influence, says Pierre Nordberg.

Now, in the wake of the crown crisis, more and more people also want to show their support for the association.
– That’s for sure, says Pierre Nordberg. There are probably more people who feel they want to support the association in times of crisis and who may also have plenty of time to reflect. We went out last week because we were close to breaking the record.
In the last week alone, MFF has gained around 250 new members.
The membership fee for an adult in Malmö FF is SEK 400, SEK 200 for youth and SEK 600 for families.
That MFF is also involved in these times of crisis, Pierre Nordberg received an indication last week. MFF then hosted a televised esports tournament, which he commented on himself.
