The crown pandemic can create drinking water deficiency in Sweden.
The warning comes from MSB, the Swedish Agency for Social Protection and Preparedness.
– We need to follow this closely. This is not a situation that we want to end, ”says Maria Bergstrand, Head of Unit at MSB.
At the authorities’ joint press conference at the Solna Public Health Authority on Monday afternoon, Maria Bergstrand presented the MSB warning.
– The work to protect the functionality of society and crisis management is about identifying deficiencies and seeing what the consequences are if measures are not taken in time. For example, there is a risk of a shortage of chemicals in our drinking water supply, which could have long-term consequences for our drinking water supply. There is also a risk of delayed supplies of flocculants used for water purification.
After the press conference, Bergstrand answered Aftonbladet’s questions.

How serious can this be?
– At the moment, I do not think it is particularly serious, but it is something that we must follow closely. It is not a situation that we want to end so clearly.
Is it the situation on the world market that determines whether certain chemicals are depleted?
– Yes, we depend on imports. There are disruptions to production and logistics flows today. It can affect some sensitive products, such as the chemicals necessary for the purification of drinking water.
Could it be a matter of water rationing in the worst case?
– I don’t think it’s something we need to worry about now. But it is important to follow these questions. The municipality that has more can give the municipality that has a little less. So we are following this to see if we need to collect it nationally for collaboration. But you should also know that most drinking water plants have backup procedures, it is something that defends, but you can replace it with other processes.
But temporarily there may be a shortage of drinking water in some municipalities?
– It is possible There is nothing that we see at the moment that should worry us, but it is important to follow it so that we do not have to end up in such a situation.
